Using the CARE Model to engage and involve under-represented individuals, groups and communities

About the project

Kyabram District Health Service’s (KDHS) project aims to support, empower and improve consumer participation in healthcare to ensure all consumer experiences are the best they can be. KDHS achieved this by involving consumers in co-design of their sustainable consumer engagement model. By listening to consumers’ experiences, KDHS gained a stronger understanding of what their consumers want and need, how they navigate the healthcare journey, and the key touchpoints for improving experiences and outcomes.

KDHS used the CARE Model to engage and involve individuals, groups and communities who are often less represented. The project was supported by the Kyabram Community and Learning Centre, which includes the Kyabram Neighbourhood House, the KDHS Aboriginal Health Community Engagement Committee and the KDHS Community and Culture Governance Committee.

The working group will continue to develop and document a model and tools for capturing and using consumer and staff experiences and ideas to drive improvements within the service.
