Grampians Integrated Cancer Service

Podcasts for newly diagnosed cancer patients to provide easy access to reliable information about treatment

About the project

Grampians Integrated Cancer Service (GICS) recognises that cancer patients often describe their diagnoses as “entering a new world”. There are new terms, types of tests and different forms of treatment available.

For many, there is the added stress of not knowing what to expect or what information to trust.

GICS's project collaborated with the community to develop and deliver a series of patient-centred podcasts with content designed by consumers, for consumers. The podcasts feature interviews with local medical specialists and take consumers gently through what might be involved in the common treatment paths. This includes Aboriginal Support Workers and practice nurses speaking specifically on the support services available for the Aboriginal community.
