Safer Care Victoria's Managing Behaviours of Concern Expert Working Group
SCV's Emergency Care Clinical Network is seeking 2 consumers to join their Managing Behaviours of Concern Expert Working Group
Background and Purpose
Caring for agitated or aggressive people in emergency settings can be difficult. The Emergency Care Clinical Network is seeking your help to make it easier and safer for staff and patients by establishing an expert working group to figure out the best way to care for people displaying behaviours of concern in emergency care settings. There is concern about how to best care for these people, who are increasing in frequency and can pose safety risks to themselves, other patients, family members and staff.
During phase one of the project, our working group developed several recommendations to improve how we care for people displaying behaviours of concern in Victorian emergency care settings. Our next step is to deliver these recommendations with the help of a new working group. The expert working group will help figure out the best ways to care for people displaying behaviours of concern. It will develop a statewide guideline for managing acute behavioural disturbance, review relevant evidence, provide leadership and advice, and help collate information about building design and aggression management training.
The Consumer Role
We are seeking 2 consumers who will participate in discussions and decisions to help us figure out the best way to care for people displaying behaviours of concern. They will provide a consumer (patient or carer) perspective in the discussions to ensure that they are considered at all stages. Some work, such as contribution to or reviewing the statewide guideline, will be required between meetings.
There will be a fixed term appointment until completion of the project, estimated to be the end of March 2020.
Meetings will be held at 50 Lonsdale St, Melbourne. Teleconference/videoconference options will be made available for those unable to travel to Melbourne.
Confirmed meeting dates:
- Monday 15 July 2019, 2-4pm
- Monday 26 August 2019, 2–4pm
- Monday 7 October 2019, 2–4pm
- Monday 11 November 2019, 2–4pm
- Tuesday 10 December 2019, 2–4pm
- Monday 3 February 2020, 2–4pm.
Unconfirmed meeting date:
- Monday 16 March 2020, 2–4pm
Consumers will be paid $112.50 for meetings lasting less than 4 hours. This fee also covers pre-reading preparation prior to meetings. Travel costs will also be covered and these include car, public transport, taxi/Uber and parking.
Consumers will need to invoice SCV and SCV will pay directly into the consumer’s bank account. They will need an ABN or complete a statement of supplier form from the ATO.
Consumers interested in joining the working group should apply by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org, and by putting ‘ECCN managing behaviours of concern’ in the subject line. Please provide one paragraph outlining:
